Ultimate customer satisfaction” is the goal of Berry Bros. General Contractors, according to the company. Based 25 miles from the Gulf of Mexico in Berwick, La., Berry Bros. is a long-standing leader in the oilfield services industry, providing oil producers with services ranging from pipe laying to remediation of radioactive materials. All the while, the company says its strength has been in its “above-average equipment and highly skilled and experienced personnel.”

The company was founded in 1956 by brothers Doyle and Everett Berry, and today has three offices in Louisiana and one recently opened branch in Colorado. Berry Bros. says the addition of a presence in Colorado will help the company fuel further growth by taking advantage of new opportunities in the Rocky Mountain region.

Strong Service
The company says its dredging services are among the best in the marketplace, and touts the capabilities of its workers and fleet of equipment. “Berry Bros. is and has been a leader in the bucket dredge industry for the last 40 years,” it says. “Berry Bros. operates six- and eight-yard bucket dredges and prides itself on having some of the most-knowledgeable and experienced dredge personnel in the business. All of our dredges are fully equipped and manned to operate on a 24-hour basis.”

Pipe services are also a large segment of the company’s work. It says it is experienced in laying pipelines ranging from two to 12 inches, in varying types of terrains and in water depths of up to 15 feet.

Berry Bros. performs dock services, as well. It provides 24-hour dock services from its main facility and operates 2,200 feet of waterfront access on the Atchafalya River with 50-, 100- and 230-ton cranes. “Berry Bros. has one of the largest loading ramps available in the area for loading/offloading of rolling equipment onto/off of barges,” the company says. “Trailer spaces are also available to run dispatch services, and unlike other facilities in the area, a 24-hour Berry Bros. dispatcher is always onsite to respond to [customers’] needs in a timely manner, thereby minimizing response times.”

Enhancing the company’s services is its new “Big Red” crane barge, which is equipped with a 230-ton crawler crane. “‘Big Red’ is a very versatile machine in that it can make both heavy lifts, such as compressors, while at the same time making substantial lifts that require long lifting radiuses,” the company says.

Blasting and painting services are handled by Berry Bros.’ Coatings Division. “There’s no job too big or too small,” the company says. “We are enabled to provide our services in-house or onsite, including offshore locations. We have crews readily available that have been trained and certified to meet all offshore safety requirements. Our facilities provide topside repair service capabilities for marine vessels and will also include bottom side services in the near future.”

For clean-up jobs, Berry Bros. provides the oil industry with products specifically suited for its needs. “Berry Bros. manufactures a complete line of soaps and degreasers that have been specifically formulated to meet the demands of the oil industry,” the company says. “Our soaps are biodegradable, water-soluble and non-caustic in nature. Berry Bros. also manufactures a special soap to be used in the oil-water separators that are found on many of the offshore crewboats and workboats today.”

An even bigger clean-up job is the removal of naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) from vessels and tanks. Berry Bros.’ subsidiary, Berry Remediation Services Inc., provides these services.

“Berry Remediation Services Inc. is a permanent NORM remediation facility in Bayou Vista, La., licensed under the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality,” the company says. “Berry Remediation utilizes high-pressure, 10,000- and 20,000-pound pumps to rid vessels and tubulars of NORM contaminations.”

Claiming Colorado
The opening of Berry Bros.’ office in Meeker, Colo., creates new opportunities for the company. “Meeker is located in the heart of the hottest oil and gas play in the state – the Piceance Creek Basin,” it says.

Services provided from the Meeker office include facility installations, site preparation, pipelines, hook-up work, industrial insulation, roustabouts, maintenance crews and welding/fabrication services. It also has a civil division focused on services for municipalities such as pothole filling and underground utility installation.

Berry Bros. says Colorado has been a good location for the company so far, and only stands to get better. “Berry Bros. is poised to take advantage of its location and is therefore engaged in providing services to the oil and gas industry,” it says.
