Global Industries Ltd. says it is prepared to find a solution to any challenge in the offshore oil and gas industry.
Global Industries Ltd. provides offshore construction, engineering, project management and support services – such as pipeline construction; platform installation and removal; decommissioning; deepwater subsea construction, umbilicals, risers and flowlines (SURF) installation; inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM); and diving – to the oil and gas industry worldwide.
Originally established in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, Global is headquartered in Carlyss, La., with a worldwide administrative office in Houston. With more than 5,000 employees, the company operates in West Africa, the Middle East, Mediterranean, Asia-Pacific, India, South America and Mexico’s Bay of Campeche, in addition to its original location. “Expansion has been achieved through a combination of acquisitions and organic growth into new markets,” the company says.
Global has two business units: the offshore construction division (OCD) and the subsea services division. OCD performs the services using the company’s construction barges, including pipelay and derrick lifts. The subsea services division provides diving and diver-less intervention, SURF and IRM. “Global provides affordable solutions for the offshore oil and gas industry to meet the energy needs of the world while safeguarding our people and maximizing our profitability,” it says. “Global will be the preferred provider of solutions and the employer of choice.”
Offshore Leader
Global says it has one of the world’s largest offshore construction fleets containing combination pipelay/derrick barges, as well as dedicated derrick barges. This allows it to provide total solutions for pipeline construction and platform installation, it says.
“As we enhance our capabilities to serve our customers in expanding the depth and range of locations where oil and gas is produced, we still continue to occupy a position as a leading provider of conventional offshore construction and installation services,” Global says. “When it comes to offshore pipelines, if you can name it, chances are we have built it. In addition to handling rigid pipe from 2 to 48 feet in diameter, we offer state-of-the-art reel pipelay technology for offshore installation up to 10 times faster than conventional pipelay. And our patented Mudbug technology allows us to simultaneously lay and bury pipelines up to 20 feet in diameter.” Mudbug uses a jetting device where pipes are buried in the ocean floor as they are laid.
The company also is experienced in the installation of platforms, subsea components and other types of offshore equipment. It says it is adept at moving drill rigs between platforms.
“The sum total of Global’s efforts is in the results we deliver,” the company says. “We complete quality projects on schedule and on budget with a level of performance that minimizes our customers’ life-cycle cost and ensures success in the development of new energy resources.”
Sound Investments
Global says it continues to invest technology and talent that will support clients in their quests for new energy resources. Capitalizing on its experience in design, analysis and installation of deepwater pipelines, the company says it has successfully overcome complex challenges at depths of up to 10,000 feet. Through the addition of vessels, technology and employees, it says it has built on its deepwater expertise. The company believes this allows it to serve the demand for SURF systems.
“We’ve increased the versatility of our fleet, adding dynamically positioned, multipurpose vessels, including new generation data processing technician second class (DP2) vessels equipped with remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and mission-specific equipment,” Global says. “With a strong focus on technology, built over many years of pioneering innovations that have become industry standards, we continue to combine expertise with ingenuity to create complete subsea solutions for our customers.”
Global says its foundation is building a committed team of the industry’s best people, allowing it to continue to add capabilities to serve clients’ needs. “We attract exceptional people who bring critical skills and share our commitment to safe operations, ethical business practices, fairness in dealing with clients and the highest standards of customer service,” it says. “By investing in our employees and offering an environment of opportunity where they want to build a future, we create a bond of trust that produces uncommon loyalty, productivity, teamwork and commitment to our clients.
“Although our organization is enriched by people with a diversity of skills, occupations, experiences and cultural backgrounds, Global people are joined by a common purpose – to deliver exceptional results for our clients.”
Working Across the Globe
Global entered into an exclusive agreement with Fluor Offshore Solutions – a division of Fluor Corp., headquartered in Irving, Texas – to pursue offshore projects in the Middle East and North Africa. The two companies have a combined 60 years of offshore experience and will jointly market and perform offshore construction projects for the oil and gas industry within the region.
“The agreement will leverage the depth of engineering, project management, procurement and installation processes to focus on both epic and traditional transportation and installation solutions,” Global says.
Global says the companies will take on some of the largest, most innovative projects in the market by utilizing Global’s extensive vessel fleet and significant offshore experience and Fluor Offshore Solutions’ expertise in marine design, procurement and construction.
The company adds that “Fluor's range of offshore oil and gas production capabilities extends to all areas of marine design and construction, with experience in more than 100 countries.”
“This exclusive agreement is an important step for both companies not only to give us efficiencies in markets we traditionally serve but also to provide us access to new prospects and new markets,” Global’s Chairman and CEO John Clerico said in a statement at the time of the signing.
“From the standpoint of our customers, it means we can provide innovative solutions using the intellectual and logistical power of both companies while at the same time providing cost savings by dealing with one entity instead of many,” he added. Fluor Corp. has offices in 25 countries spread over six continents. It says it delivers engineering, procurement, construction, maintenance and project management to governments and clients in diverse industries around the world.
In September, Global signed a $70 million contract with Brazilian company Petrobras. Located in Rio de Janeiro, Petrobras is a multinational energy company that specializes in the oil industry. Global will perform diving, ROV and construction services. It is a 180-day contract with an option for an extension of up to six additional months. Global says the contract is a perfect fit for its future plans in the region and elsewhere.
“The project is in line with our long-term view and growth strategy in Brazil, as well as our commitment to deliver integrated solutions and quality services to Petrobras,” Clerico said.
